Is there a time frame for the administration of TendoVis™ for Rotator Cuff Tendinopathy?

No. As Rotator Cuff Tendinopathy is a chronic disease, TendoVis™ can be administered at anytime once the problem has been diagnosed.

The treatment is performed with 2 injections with an interval of 2 weeks. Is this the optimum number for the treatment? Will I need to give more injections?

The effectiveness of TendoVis™ as seen in the clinical study was obtained after 2 in-jections. We believe that the optimum results can be seen if the full therapeutic cycle is followed (that is, 2 injections with an interval of 2 weeks).

Additional administrations of TendoVis™ during follow up assessments can be done, since TendoVis™ contains STABHA™ (biocompatible Hyaluronic Acid) and therefore it is metabolised with no risk of intoxication.

Could you specify the place and way of injection?

We recommend that the physician should use the antero-lateral approach but there are also other ways to injection TendoVis™ and will be entirely up to the discretion of the physician.

Is the fanning technique recommended for TendoVis™ injection in the shoulder?

No, it is not necessary to employ the fanning technique for the shoulder. The fanning technique is the recommended injection technique for the administration of TendoVis™ in the ankle and the elbow, but not for the shoulder.

Can TendoVis™ be mixed with other medicine like corticosteroids or anaes-thetics before the injection?

MDT has not conducted any studies regarding mixing TendoVis™ with other medication and hence cannot recommend such mixing. The mixing of TendoVis™ with other medication therefore would be based on the judgment and responsibility of the Healthcare professional.

Does TendoVis™ replace the Standard of Care for Rotator Cuff Tendinopathy?

TendoVis™ was not created to replace the practice of standard care. It is advised that TendoVis™ and standard of care should be used concomitantly.

Is TendoVis™ listed on the doping list – that is, can I use it on my elite athletes?

TendoVis™ is not listed as a doping agent and can be used on athletes of all standards.

How does TendoVis™ work?

TendoVis™’s main ingredient is STABHA™ (Soft Tissue Adapted Biocompatible Hyaluronic Acid).

Once STABHA™ is introduced to the site, it performs the following activities due to the presence of exogenous soft tissue specific hyaluronic acid:

  • It reacts with cellular fibronectin found at the injury site to create a scaffold which facilitates and controls the cellular migration at the injury site. This scaffold is able to promote healing as it acts as a barrier by limiting the access of macrophages and lymphocytes to this site thereby limiting but not stopping inflammation.
  • STABHA™ also helps in re-organising the fibrils in fibres and fascicles as well as restoring the fibres into their normal parallel arrangement allowing them to form into their optimal size compared to scar tissue which is smaller in diameter.
  • STABHA™ provides the injury site structural support due to its viscous nature.

STABHA™ which is contained in TendoVis™ is believed to increase the quality of healing thus reducing scar tissue formation, and reducing the time for said quality healing.

TendoVis™ provides a quantitative and qualitative effective and efficient method for the management of Rotator Cuff Tendinopathy. Results from the randomised clinical trial on more 50 patients showed that using TendoVis™ alone compared to physiotherapy, patients were able to achieve statistically significant reduction in pain and improvement in functionality quicker. These results showed that the 2 injections of TendoVis™ last for at least 6 months.

What is the manufacturing process of TendoVis™?

TendoVis™ is produced by an innovative manufacturing process which is patented. TendoVis™ is derived from continuous fermentation of Streptococcus equi which ensures the hyaluronic acid obtained has very limited exposure to the intra-cellular content and is kept in solution (in its natural form) for as much as possible.

This results in a purity profile that allows TendoVis™ to be biocompatible with soft tissues, with reduced chemical processes that would alter a sensitive polymer (e.g. pH, heat).

What is the hyaluronic acid molecular weight of TendoVis™?

Molecular weight is not the focal point of TendoVis™. Instead, one should focus on the design of TendoVis™ which is STABHA™.

STABHA™ is made by specifically using a very carefully selected set of parameters that gives the optimal rheological properties, thus residence time in the soft tissue.

Purity is also another key factor instead of molecular weight. Both the purity profile and residence time in the soft tissue allows TendoVis™ to achieve maximum
interactions with torn ligaments and tendons.

Hyaluronic acid products seem to be fairly common. Can I use other products that are not TendoVis™?

TendoVis™ contains STABHA™ (Soft Tissue Adapted Biocompatible Hyaluronic Acid) which is has been designed and patented to be used for soft tissue injections. Many other products in the market contain different types of hyaluronic acid that are not specific for injecting into the tendons and ligaments.
